A reminder that we’ll meet on Tuesday, October 24th, from 6:30-8 PM in our usual meeting room at the SW Police Precinct, 2300 SW Webster Street (at Delridge Ave SW, next to Home Depot).

We are still finalizing the agenda, so it’s not too late to suggest a topic! We’ll post it here as the date gets closer. As always, we’ll have updates from SW Precinct Commander, Captain Pierre Davis.

Does it seem early to be wrapping up our meetings for the year? It’s because we meet on 4th Tuesdays. Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays typically fall too close to that day.

Hope to see you on the 24th!

Join us on September 26th, as our monthly meetings resume!

WSBWCN-logo Happy fall! A quick reminder that our Summer Meeting Hiatus is over and our September meeting is coming up next week.

We hope you can join us next Tuesday, September, 26th, 6:30-8 PM, in our usual meeting room at the SW Police Precinct, 2300 SW Webster Street (at Delridge Ave SW, next to Home Depot).

Should be a great meeting! We’ll have updates from SPD’s SW Precinct leadership, and lots to discuss about what’s taken place over the summer.

As well, since September is National Emergency Preparedness month, we’ll talk about that too.

We are still finalizing the agenda, so let us know if you have any additional topics or suggestions. Everyone is welcome – you need not be an active Block Watch captain to attend.

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, April 25th to talk crime prevention!

WSBWCN-giant-logocurrentJennifer Burbridge, our new Crime Prevention Coordinator, but a familiar face to many, will be our guest!

Last month, we learned that Jennifer Burbridge is stepping into a new role. She’ll be taking over crime prevention in the SW Precinct from Mark Solomon. Mark has been covering crime prevention for BOTH the SW and the South precincts. Fortunately, he’ll still be nearby working on crime prevention in the South Precinct.

Come meet and hear from Jennifer. She will outline her new responsibilities and talk about what her focus will be. We’re curious to hear how she plans to interact with the neighborhoods and with our organization of Block Watch Captains.

Please bring your questions, thoughts and ideas for our new SW Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator!

Added, 4/27/17:  Here’s the coverage and follow-up from this meeting!

Look for us on Saturday at Delridge Day and the SW Precinct Picnic!

As we mentioned earlier, we’ll be at Delridge Day and the SW Precinct Picnic this  Saturday, August 13th! These two great annual events are held in combination on the grounds of the Delridge Community Center from 11 AM – 3 PM.

Come enjoy live music, free ice cream, yummy food, exciting demos at the Delridge Skatepark, and lots of activities for kids!

This is also a great opportunity to learn more about our local West Seattle community. Community groups and organizations (such as ours!) and West Seattle Be Prepared. Local businesses and vendors will be there.

The Seattle Police Department brings a safety focus to this event each year. You can meet the Community Police Team (CPT) officers and leaders from the SW Precinct, see some of their latest technology, ask questions, and talk with them informally about your concerns.

We hope to see you there – look for our booth, sporting the banner below! As usual, we’ll have informational materials galore!

Reminders ahead of next week…

WSBWCN-giant-logocurrentAs this weeks starts to wind down, we wanted to call a few things on the horizon to your attention.

First, a reminder that our monthly meeting is next Tuesday, June 28th at 6:30 PM (at the SW Precinct). This will be our final meeting before our annual “summer hiatus” — so therefore your last opportunity to pick up any of our safety-related informational materials, 9-1-1 bags, coloring books and stickers, for your Night Out events!

Second, the deadline to apply for Small Sparks grants that provide funds for Night Out events is Friday, July 1st at 5 PM; note that you’ll need to register in their system a little earlier than that, so don’t wait until the last minute!

FYI, Night Out is coming up on Tuesday, August 2nd this year!Night Out_logo

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24th, for our monthly meeting!

WSBWCN-giant-logocurrentWhat are your top-of-mind, Block Watch-related issues? Bring them to our meeting!

It’s been awhile since we’ve had open discussion as opposed to a full agenda, so this is your chance to discuss what is happening in your neighborhood, ask for advice, share your advice, and get to know your fellow BW captains.  Let’s take advantage of this!

Two topics that have been raised so far both involve youth. How do we engage youth to be involved in Block Watch? How do we build awareness of summer safety issues in them without alarming them?
