If you were at our recent meeting which focused on the topic of repeat offenders, you heard SW Precinct Commander, Captain Steve Wilske speak about some of the challenges involved in returning stolen goods to their rightful owners. He announced that his department had ordered several engraving toolkits that they plan to lend to residents.
He noted that if more people took steps to record the serial numbers from their items, as well as apply their driver’s license number to valuables, police officers would be able to locate and contact owner(s) when stolen goods were recovered. The use of an owner-applied number would also make it more difficult for criminals to sell stolen items.
Yesterday, Captain Wilske announced that the engraving toolkits have arrived and are now available! You can see the kits and learn more in this coverage from King5 TV on last evening’s newscast.
If you missed his original remarks, you’ll find coverage from our monthly meeting here.
