As noted at our recent meeting, we’ve been awarded a Bill Wright Technology Fund grant! We’ll receive $4000 to develop and implement an online system to efficiently network the Blockwatch captains in Southwest Seattle. The tool will enable residents in areas with public safety concerns to do research and create/update their Blockwatch information online. We’ll look at ways that this project will mesh with, not duplicate, the tool currently being developed by Code For America.
On Thursday, September 22nd, we attended the City Council briefing to the Energy, Technology and Civil Rights committee which heard the grant recommendations with details regarding each project. This event was followed by a reception in the Mayor’s Office. Deborah Greer spoke on behalf of WSBWCN and our proposed project.
I’ve posted a few of our photos below. The City’s TechTalk blog post has links to Seattle Channel video of the briefing and a slideshow of award recipients with the Mayor.
We were happy to see that this past Monday (10/3), the full City Council approved the grant recommendations!
